Meet The Team

Amy Potter
Agency Principal & Personal Lines

I have lived in Powhatan all of my life and could not imagine living anywhere else. Michael and I joke that we were the only two people that knew we wanted to live and work in Powhatan so we may as well get married. Well, it worked out pretty well since we have been married for 18 years and have two great kids. William is 14 years old and would rather be hunting, fishing and farming than anything else in the world, while Charlie is 8 years old and she thinks she was put here to be in charge of the rest of us.

When I was little I would get off the bus and come to the office most afternoons and spent a lot of time playing in a tree behind the Richardson Building or underneath Mary Margaret Murphy’s desk where I could listen to everyone without being seen. I have worked here since May 1993 and then Michael and I bought the agency from Ruth and Steve in 2007. The friends we work with here at RHB are our extended family and the value on the lasting relationships we have created is immeasurable.

Being here has given me the opportunity to really be a part of the community through various charitable organizations and great county projects. The shared commitment of so many family and friends to our church, our schools and our community is we choose to live, work and have fun here.

Ruth Boatwright
Personal Lines & Farmowners

I was fortunate enough to be born in Powhatan County where I grew up and attended school with the greatest friends in the world, and which I still cherish today. I was fortunate enough to find a husband who loved Powhatan as much as I did and wanted to make this his home also. After several neat jobs, I was introduced to the folks at Richardson Insurance Agency. Getting a job here continues to be my dream job after 55 years. To say that I’ve enjoyed every minute of it, is an understatement. When I became part owner and the name changed to Richardson-Harris-Boatwright Insurance Agency, I had to almost pinch myself to make sure it was true.

This career has allowed me to become involved in the lives of so many wonderful people. My involvement with the Veterans of Powhatan has touched my heart in ways I could not have imagined. So many beautiful and talented people have joined me in recognizing these brave men and women by performing and entertaining them for a special Musical Memorial show each year.

My involvement with Relay for Life will always stand as one of the most touching and meaningful events for our County. It stands as a testimony to people needing people to enrich and support each other during their most difficult days. It has brought hope and joy to the lives it has touched.

God has been so good to me and I continue to be a part of the agency, a part of the county and a part of being involved with my grandchildren who bring me joy beyond measure.

Personal & Commercial Lines

I grew up in an IBM (aka “I’ve Been Moved”) family spending time in Texas and Maryland as a child. If you ask me where I am from I will say, “well, I am kind of a mutt but consider Maryland my original home town”. After graduating from Towson State University in 1992 with a B.S. in Psychology, I remained in Baltimore until 1998 when I had the opportunity to experience several wonderful college towns such as Lawrence, Kansas, Greenville, North Carolina and Baton Rouge, Louisiana! Having the chance to move and live in so many parts of the country was awesome and gave me an appreciation for all walks of life! I have been happily settled in central Virginia since 2005.

I am a mom of two beautiful daughters and enjoy cheering them on; whether they are scoring a goal in soccer or dancing on the sidelines of a football game! I love to cook, work out, travel to new places and decorating my first new home with my significant other, Keith…which continues to be work in progress! We also have 3 fur kids that keep us busy!

I have been a licensed P & C agent since 2008 when I was blessed enough to join the RHB team! I love my job, helping people understand the crazy world of insurance and developing long-term relationships with my customers! Providing excellent customer service and saving my clients money keeps me coming back to work every day…along with the great team of people I work alongside of!

Sharon Samuel
Life and Health Specialist

I was born and raised in Virginia and graduated from Clover Hill High School and The Braxton School of Business. I have a daughter, Tiffany and a son, Brandon. Both are married to wonderful spouses. Tiffany gave me my first grandson, Chase and recently Brandon gave me another grandson, Palmer. Being a Mimi to my two grandsons brings me so much joy and being a mother to two wonderful children and their spouses means the world to me.

I have worked in insurance since 1996 and have been with Richardson-Harris-Boatwright since May 2000. Being a part of the RHB family is such a joy to my life and makes each day a pleasure to come to work. My specialty is Life and Health Insurance. Health insurance has changed dramatically over the past few years but I really enjoy the opportunity to work with clients to enhance their knowledge and to help them obtain coverage to protect their families.

I enjoy community activities and over the years have found heartfelt meaning in working with the Powhatan Relay for Life, Powhatan Festival of the Grape, Anthem’s Diaper Change Campaign and most recently the American Heart Association in memory of my late husband. Our community has so many great things to offer and so many wonderful people which is why I call Powhatan home.

I was born and raised in Chesterfield County, VA and graduated from Midlothian High School. I feel blessed to have been able to call Powhatan home for the past ten years; it truly is a wonderful place to live! My husband George and I have a six year old, Kendall.

I first obtained my P&C license in 2004 and was appointed by Allstate for several years. After stepping away from the insurance industry for several years, I found myself again licensed and active with commercial insurance in 2008.

When away from the office I enjoy being outdoors, trying new recipes in the kitchen and of course spending time with family with friends.

Since joining the RHB team in late 2014 I have spoken to and met so many wonderful business owners. I truly enjoy helping our commercial clients and look forward to building relationships with each of you.

I grew up in Powhatan County and am a graduate of Powhatan High School. After graduating from Powhatan High, I attended John Tyler Community College and received an associate’s degree in arts and science in 2007. I then attended Longwood University and graduated in 2009 with a B.S. in Psychology.

After graduation, I spent about a year teaching pre- school and volunteering with Powhatan County Social Services in Domestic Violence Program. In early 2011 I received my insurance license and have been in the insurance business ever since.

I currently reside in Powhatan with my better half Robby, and our dog Jim. In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, going to the beach, and cooking.

I am excited to be the newest addition to the RHB team! I enjoy helping clients understand insurance as well as helping them get the best coverage at the best rate. I am excited about the client relationships that will be built in the future as well as providing exceptional customer service.

I grew up in Richmond, VA. I currently live in Powhatan with my husband Mark. I have two fantastic children, Brandon and Rachel and 11 amazing grandchildren. I really love spending time with my grandchildren by being involved in many of their activities and their daily lives. Fortunately, they all live nearby so it gives me the opportunity to cultivate a close, nurturing relationship with each and every one, and of course spoil them rotten.

In the past, I worked at Huguenot Road Baptist Church as the Financial Secretary/Office Manager. My duties went way beyond the standard secretary and I relished in my role of working with the public, interacting with the congregation and providing support in every area as needs arose. I was fortunate to build long lasting relationships, which continue to this day.

I am excited to be part of the RHB team and being the calm voice on the end of the phone, when your life demands a call to the firm in a time of crisis or even to just to answer quick questions about a claim. My hope is to build and foster local relationships with our customers, while continue to emulate the service RHB has been known to provide in our community for the past 50 years.
