Types of Insurance

Automobile

The price an insurance company charges for automotive coverage is based on the frequency and cost of potential accidents, thefts, and other losses. Prices vary from company to company and it is our job to find the company that best suits you! Premiums can also vary depending on the amount of coverage purchased; the make and model of the vehicle; as well as the insured’s driving record. There are basically six different types of coverages.

These coverages include:

  • Bodily Injury Liability: for injuries the policy holder may cause to someone else
  • Medical Payments or Personal Injury Protection: for treatment of injuries to the driver and passengers of the policy holders vehicle
  • Property Damage Liability: for damage the policy holder may cause to someone else’s property
  • Collision: for damage to the policy holder’s car from a collision
  • Comprehensive: for damage to the policy holders car not involving a collision with another car. This can include damage caused by: fire, weather, theft, collision with animals and windshields.
  • Uninsured Motorists Coverage: for costs resulting from an accident involving a hit-and-run driver or a driver who does not have Insurance.

Homeowners

The typical Homeowners Insurance Policy covers the house, garage and other structures on the property, as well as personal possessions inside the house such as furniture, appliances and clothing, against a wide variety of perils including windstorms, fire and theft.

The extent of the perils covered depends on the type of policy. An all-risk policy offers the broadest coverage. This covers all perils except those specifically excluded in the policy.

Homeowners Insurance also covers additional living expenses. Known as Loss of Use, this provision in the policy reimburses the policyholder for the extra cost of living elsewhere while the house is being restored after a loss. The liability portion of the policy covers the homeowner for accidental injuries caused to a third party, such as a guest slipping and falling while on the property.

Additional Coverages

Richardson-Harris-Boatwright Insurance also offers coverage for Umbrella policies, Motorcycles, Boats, Recreational Vehicles, Jet-Skis, Rental Properties and Trailers.

Umbrella Insurance

Umbrella policies provide excess coverage over the underlying or primary liability policy. Both Personal Umbrellas, which provide coverage above the Homeowners and Personal Auto Liability coverage, and Commercial Umbrellas, which provide coverage over the Commercial Liability and Auto coverage, are available and are commonly written to provide a minimum of $1,000,000 in additional coverage. These types of policies are crucial in providing comprehensive protection for individuals and businesses due to the escalating suits and judgments being handed down in courts.

Motorcycle Insurance

Motorcycle Insurance can include coverage for collisions, theft, vandalism and damage cause by uninsured or underinsured drivers. Other coverage options can include, but are not limited to additional custom equipment, medical payments, property damage, guest passenger liability and even towing and labor.

Renters Insurance

Renters Insurance covers a policyholder’s belongings against perils such as fire, theft, windstorm, hail, explosion, vandalism, riots, and others. It also provides personal liability coverage for damage the policy holder or dependents cause to third parties. In addition, the policy allows for additional living expenses, also known as loss of use coverage, if a policy holder must move while his or her dwelling is being repaired. Coverage for property improvements can also be included. Possessions can be covered for their replacement costs or the actual cost value that includes depreciation.

Watercraft Insurance

Boat Insurance coverage includes medical payments, physical damage, and watercraft liability. Medical payments typically cover passengers in the boat, water-skiers being pulled behind the boat and passengers swimming near the boat. Physical damage coverage typically covers not only the boat itself, but the motor and trailer. Coverage applies to the boat while it is being driven, stored, towed and launched. Finally, watercraft liability includes damages caused to other boaters, boats and docks.
